If you have a locomotive whose motors and lights are run by a DCC or Marklin Digital / Marklin MM / Marklin Motorola decoder but it doesn't have sound, it may not always be the best idea to completely pull the decoder and replace it with a new one. The LokSound 5 FX sound and function-only decoder might be the better fit. I believe that's the case with these two locomotives that have a Marklin Digital / Marklin Motorola decoder. Given that they use a circuit strip to run the lights, I didn't believe trying to re-wire those would be the best idea. Instead, I'm using an FX decoder to handle the sounds while the original MM decoder chip handles the motor and lights. This technique would also work great if you just don’t want to strip out an in-place DCC or MM controller for whatever reason.

Locomotives seen in this video are Marklin 36603, a DB BR 185 painted in a fantasy Haribo livery and the Siemens Eurorunner / Hercules diesel from the Marklin 26572 Arriva set.
