As a coach, one of the hardest things to teach is anticipation. For some players, the ability to “see” the court and “feel” what shot is coming next is an innate quality. Most players don’t have this and must develop their instincts and reactions with lots of match play and constant reminders, just like in the video.

In the first clip, the receiver knows she hits an excellent return but doesn’t have the “feel” to react appropriately. She doesn't think one shot ahead.

In the second clip, the same problem, different shot. The server knows she hits a bad shot but doesn't know why. Her shot selection would be different if she thought one shot ahead.

In the third clip, after the coach's berating, the server recognizes the need for the lob, which is thinking one shot ahead.
