January 21 is Squirrel Appreciation Day and a great opportunity to do something to help whichever variety of squirrels are native to your region, if you can. Every little bit helps.

If you have squirrels nearby, and have the resources, leave out squirrel safe foods. Sometimes, when squirrels have their own regularly filled feeders, they may be less likely to raid bird feeders or cause damage in the garden. Some folks make entire obstacle courses to keep squirrels feeling challenged when working for treats!

Read up on what squirrels are native to where you live and what kind of assistance they could use from you. There may be a local/regional organization with more information and opportunities to get involved. Find out!
