How to do Orbitals for Poi: 1-Minute Tutorial

How to perform orbitals, a 1 minute tutorial for poi spinning! Learn the basics of poi dancing in a small, bite-sized video that covers the basics of the orbital. Got a suggestion for a 1 minute tutorial? Let me know down in the comments!

Start with the poi spinning in split-time same direction in wheel plane. You'll want to cross the poi over each other such that they touch each other mid-tether. Once the tethers cross, you'll turn to put the poi into buzzsaw plane.

As soon as the poi enter buzzsaw plane, pull the handles sharply out to either side until you feel resistance and the poi will being to turn rapidly between your hands. To exit the orbital, let the tether go slightly slack in order to slow down the poi enough to see what they are doing. Once the poi attached to the lead hand has cleared the space between your hands, complete the turn to allow the poi to uncross.

Orbitals tend to be smoother and last longer when the poi you use have swivels in or near the handles. As the orbital loses momentum, pull outward on the handles once again to keep the orbital going.
