Procol Harum - A Salty Dog (1969)

Описание к видео Procol Harum - A Salty Dog (1969)

This one's a request! ... a new one too, appearing in a comment on my "Whisky Train" video. Probably most die-hard Procol Harum fans might consider this song, "A Salty Dog,"
their best. Doubtlessly there are many exceptions. But I too consider this the band's very best, a perfect track in the format of classical composition in a style inspired by Frédéric Chopin. I spent a lot of time on this video because the song deserves only the very best from me. Although it appears to be paired with Moby Dick (1956), it is not. However elements of that grand film starring Gregory Peck as the great white whale obsessed Captain Ahab do make up portions of this story (although the whale makes no appearance). The lyrics of "A Salty Dog" betray something much more than a seafaring adventure but, like Moby Dick, is also a voyage into the supernatural and discovery of the spiritual. I leave it to the viewer, and the listener, to find these things, but I did follow the lyrics of Keith Reid most faithfully (I hope).

A Salty Dog is also Procol Harum's third studio album, released in June 1969. The title track is also the first track and was released as a single, reaching #44 on the UK singles chart. In the United States and Canada "A Salty Dog" was an extremely popular FM radio hit in 1969 and the early 1970s.
