For young children, language isn't just a game. It's literal. They don’t yet grasp the difference between what’s real and what’s a joke. And that seemingly innocent comment can:
– cause confusion – they don’t understand you’re just kidding
– create fear – they truly believe what you say, even if it sounds impossible
– affect trust – once they realize it wasn’t true, they may start to doubt other things you tell them
