Airdate: August 1, 1964

“If A Man Answers” is the title song to the 1962 film by the same name which starred Bobby and his then-wife Sandra Dee. This “old timer” song peaked at #32 just 21 months ago in November of ’62. While it’s kind of a random song to celebrate the upcoming 7th anniversary show (of all the hundreds of songs they could have chosen), I like the beat, the kids liked to dance to it and yes, I would buy this record. I give it an 81.

Bandstand is picking up more “regulars” after starting over in Hollywood just 6 months ago. Some of the new California “regulars” dancing today include: Tom Landis (2:24), Famous Hooks (3:14, looking, to me, the same as he does in 1970, lol), Linda Burns (3:23), Terry Shyers (3:27, one of the 4 boys with Beatles hairdos on the April “Beatles” show featured on “American Dreams”), and Frank Loverde (3:29).

Yesterday (July 31) the U.S. spacecraft “Ranger 7” sent back the very first close-up pictures of the surface of the moon. Soon thereafter it became the first U.S. spacecraft to reach the moon. (The Russian Luna 2 was the first in 1959). Almost exactly 5 years later (minus 11 days), the U.S. landed the first manned spacecraft, Apollo 11, on the surface of the moon.

Coming Up Next: Some great insights from The Young Rascals’ Felix Cavaliere on the Hollywood Hotline followed by the kids dancing to another hit from their “Groovin’” album.
