Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold (PC) Gameplay

Описание к видео Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold (PC) Gameplay

One of the best Wolfenstein 3D-engine games ever made, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold was released in 1993 by Jam Productions/Apogee Software and features loads of interesting gameplay systems and mechanics.

Perhaps the most unique thing about the game is its "elevator/floor" system. Unlike most other first-person shooters from the same era, in Blake Stone each floor is persistent and can be revisited as many times as the player wishes. If you leave a bunch of health and ammo behind when advancing to the next floor, for example, you can return to the previous floor at any time to collect them should the need arise.

The "Informant/Loyalist" system is also highly unique. Throughout levels you'll encounter wandering scientists who are either undercover Informants willing to lend resources and advice or Loyalists working for the game's villain, Dr. Goldfire. The only way to know who is who is to walk up and interrogate them, at which point they'll either offer help or shout for a guard and whip out a gun! What's especially cool about this mechanic is that scientists' "faction" are randomized each time you start a new game, meaning you can never know ahead of time which scientists are on your side and which ones are loyal to Dr. Goldfire.

In addition to what I've said above, the game also features a silenced weapon system (meaning you can kill enemies without alerting others), a coin-and-vending-machine system (you can collect coins and spend them at vending machines to recover health), an automap, and much more.

If you'd like to play Blake Stone yourself, I recommend checking out the BStone source port, which is the one I used when recording this video. BStone is compatible with both Blake Stones: Aliens of Gold and its 1994 sequel, Planet Strike, and boasts support for widescreen resolutions, custom keybindings, and more. In order to use the BStone source port, you'll of course first need to purchase a copy of the game itself. You can grab a copy from either Steam or GOG via the links below:
