Thousands of commuters in one of India's wealthiest suburbs were stuck on roads for six to eight hours due to rain-triggered traffic gridlock on Monday.

This led to outrage against officials on social media with many asking how Gurugram - known for its futuristic skyscrapers and sprawling corporate offices - can have such poor infrastructure.

Disaster management authorities in the suburb - which neighbours Delhi - have advised offices, schools and colleges to work from home on Tuesday as more rainfall is predicted.

Meanwhile, weather warnings have also been issued in Delhi and its other suburbs.

The Yamuna river has crossed the danger mark, flooding some low-lying areas.
