I've always wanted to try making a Bulbasaur planter and it was perfect timing when Pokemon Go exploded all over the world. My first ever Pokemon from Red/Blue was Bulbasaur so I have a soft spot for him :). I was also excited to try this DIY ceramic/pottery clay from the Japanese brand Yako. The little koala is life!

This project went fairly well up until the point when I realised I should have glazed it before firing. I originally wanted to make a white ceramic planter but the glaze didn't stick after the clay had already been fired. So if you get this clay, be sure to follow these steps:

DIY YAKO CERAMIC CLAY
1) Make your piece using clay and let dry completely (7-10 days)
2) Paint on COLOURED glaze (white, red, etc)
3) Fire the clay at 170C/340F for 40 mins
4) After cooling completely, you can use CLEAR glaze. This comes in a much smaller pot
5) Fire the clay again at 110C/230F for 30mins
6) This will give your piece a fully waterproof, ceramic finish

Hope you enjoys this Pokemon Go inspired DIY! I definitely hope to make more PokemonGo DIYs in future :). The next one will probably be pink Pokemon related as my favourites are Jigglypuff, Clefairy and Chansey. I haven't caught them all in Pokemon Go yet!
