Polysaccharide storage myopathy (PSSM) type 2

Описание к видео Polysaccharide storage myopathy (PSSM) type 2

Charles is a warmblood x draft living in the UK. This video shows him aged 4 and 5 years old

After Charles began his basic saddle training we noticed some odd and unfamiliar things. This video shows some of the odd movements he would make but the list was long, very long.

Over time we suspected the horse had a genetic disease, PSSM. He was negative for type 1
Muscle biopsy for type 2 was negative but this was a false negative result (tests were developed in 2018/19 for type 2 and these proved positive)

This short video shows how management of his problem in the early days diet and exercise plan led to a significant reduction in symptoms. His diet changed to Coolstance Copra, low in non structural carbohydrates. All grain was removed over two weeks and copra was slowly introduced. An exercise plan was made to build up muscle strength. Long warm up and cool down phase.

Tie ups still occurred especially in colder months. We got better and better at reading subtle symptoms as time went on. Saracen's Re-Leve has since been added to his diet to contribute to management of his condition.
