🔸 Who is Laura Gilbert?
Laura’s STEM career began in academia, achieving an MSci/BA in Physics at the University of Cambridge, followed by a DPhil in Particle Physics at the University of Oxford. In 2003, Laura became a Lecturer in Physics at the University of Oxford, later becoming a Postdoctoral Researcher in Particle Physics and GRID Computing. She then moved into quantitative finance, working with hedge funds such as Man AHL as a quantitative analyst, before becoming an entrepreneur. She took a medical technologies startup, Rescon, through development into an SME and then to acquisition over nearly a decade, before her appointment into Downing Street in September 2020.
Laura is also a Visiting Professor in Practice at the London School of Economics & Political Science, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Analytics. In honour of her distinguished career, Laura was appointed CBE for Services to Technology and Analysis. Laura has also spent decades in Savate Kickboxing, competing for Great Britain 7 times, and was president of the Great Britain Savate Federation for 6 years.
