The Extraordinary History of HBCUs
Voice over talent: Jaz Posey

Decades ago, during the period of segregation, before the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, the African-American community faced several challenges from the white community; a major challenge for the African-American community was acquiring quality higher education.

The majority of the higher education institutions in the United States of America disqualified Black American enrollment or limited the enrollment of Black Americans to their institutions.

This was a great concern to the African-American community. They sought out help through the assistance of religious missionary organizations such as the Methodist Episcopal Church and the African Methodist Episcopal Church of Ohio.

Help arrived, and the HBCUs were initially established to provide quality education for African-Americans in the 19th century.
