History of POBITORA National Park....
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary – earlier it was a dense marshland surrounded by paddy fields and farmland which was maintained by local villagers. They protected it from outsiders as well as rhinoceros, cattle, and wild bulls. Pobitora became a reserved wooded area in the year of 1971 with the approval done by Government of Assam Tourism. After the unexpected turn down on the rhino population caused by various reasons including stealing, Assam tourism, and the Assam Government took immediate action and declared Pobitora a wildlife sanctuary. The Government of India included Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary with the association of a rhino breeding program named "Indian Rhino Vision 2020".

Important Notes For Pobitora Safari Booking

The First thing you should know is that the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is managed by the Guwahati Wildlife Division which functions under the forestministry of the Assam Government.
The Safari is operated in two shifts – the morning shift and theafternoon shift along with a separate full-day safari slot.
The Safaris allowed in each shift are limited to Jeeps (6members) and Elephant Safari.
Advance booking for the safari is allowed through the Pobitora online booking procedure. However, online booking is subject to the availability of slots and vehicles.
Generally, most of the safari seats are booked in advance via the onlinebooking process. So, it is best advised to book your safari tickets early with anadvance online ticket booking procedure.
At the time of online safari booking, you have to provide the fullname (as mentioned on the ID card) and the photo ID number of each visitor. You have to show the same ID proof to the forestofficials at the time of entry into the park. In the case of false orincomplete name and ID proof, the forest department reserves theright to cancel your safari booking at any time.
As the photo ID proof for Indian Nationals, the Passport / Drivinglicense / Pan Card / Voter ID / Aadhaar Card /School ID or anyother Government ID is acceptable. Whereas, Foreign Nationalsneed to provide only their passport as photo ID proof.
You are asked to provide information like your safari date, safaritime (morning/afternoon), safari vehicle (Jeep), and your boarding place in Pobitora (i.e. Name of the hotel, resort, etc.)at the time of making online booking of safari.
For the confirmation of the safari permit, you will have to pay the full fee in advance which includes the park entrance fee, vehiclefee, and guide fee. The Confirmed safari permit is non-refundable,non- transferable, and non-exchangeable in any circumstances.
The Forest Department assigns the safari vehicle, guide, and safari gate on a random basis. So, you don't have the option tochoose any particular vehicle, or guide.
