Driving in Barbados - Ronald Mapp Highway to Speightstown

Описание к видео Driving in Barbados - Ronald Mapp Highway to Speightstown

In this driving video, the journey begins at the Lancaster, St. James section of the Ronald Mapp Highway and ends at the roundabout at Speightstown, St. Peter.

Built in 1996 and commonly known as Highway 2A (its former name), the Ronald Mapp Highway is a long stretch of roadway running from Warrens, St. Michael to Mile & a Quarter, St. Peter. It connects the northern, western and central parts of the island to the south via its connection to the ABC highway (built in 1989). The highway runs through the parishes of St. Michael, St. Thomas, St. James and St. Peter and is commonly used to get to notable places like Speightstown, Mile & a Quarter, Royal Westmoreland, Farley Hill National Park and even Animal Flower Cave in St. Lucy.

Speightstown is one of Barbados' four main towns and is the island's second largest town after the capital city Bridgetown. It was once a busy port town accommodating many cargo ships and goes by the nickname 'Little Bristol' as a result. Today, it is a residential and commercial area with many shops, restaurants, bars, markets and at least one hotel. The town is famous for its newly refurbished jetty and its boardwalk/esplanade. It even has its own bus terminal with connections to many northern, western, eastern and southern destinations, including Bridgetown.
