Enabling WAMPAC systems with IEC 61850 for grid stability

In this video Birkir Heimisson, Project Manager for Smart Grid Development of Landsnet in Iceland discusses how Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control (WAMPAC) systems with IEC 61850 will improve grid operation and stability. Issues discussed include: Making the business case for implementing Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) and synchronised phasor measurements in the substation to improve wide area system monitoring. Using IEC TR 61850-90-5 to transmit digital state and time synchronized power measurements and enable (WAMPAC) systems.
