One of the most common challenges with new breastfeeding parents is nipple soreness. Our expert and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Dana, explains what's normal and what's not. 

She also goes over a few things you can do to treat sore or painful nipples, including: 

- Hand express some breastmilk and apply to nipple
Apply pure lanolin which is safe for babies
Use a breast shell or gel pads which prevent your nipples from touching your bra or shirt

If latching is painful, try the following
Pumping or hand expressing to protect your milk supply
Consider a nipple shield
Seek help from an IBCLC
