About this video: What is CPM on YouTube you ask? Well, the answer is simple. CPM in regards to YouTube is the amount an advertiser pays per every one thousand monetized views a video generates. It is very important that I stress the 'MONETIZED views' part of that. The reason for this is because you are only paid for monetized views.

Views that come from mobile browsers, views from people using ad blocker, and views that just generally don't have ads on them are not included when calculating CPM on YouTube. In general, only about 40% to 60% of a YouTube channel's overall views are monetized, and only these views count towards CPM.

As far as amount goes, CPMs on YouTube can swing very widely depending on where your audience is located, if you're a Google Preferred partner, and what language your videos are in. For example, if you are a normal YouTube channel not in the Preferred ad program with your audience most in the US or UK, your CPMs are going to usually range between $2-$6. However, creators in with viewers that are not English speaking can sometimes see extremely low CPMs under $1.
