AHA vs BHA | how to choose | dermatologist guides

Описание к видео AHA vs BHA | how to choose | dermatologist guides

AHA and BHA are commonly used terms in skin care.

Alpha hydroxy acids cause gentle skin exfoliation, removes dead cross and makes skin appear fresher. It also boosts collagen synthesis.  Examples are  glycolic acid, lactic acid and mandelic acid

Beta hydroxy acids are oil loving and get concentrate in oil forming glands. They reduce stickiness of cells thereby reducing formation of blackheads and whiteheads and also reduces oiliness . Example is salicylic acid.

How do you know which one to choose?

▪️Aging skin
As skin gets dry with age, you want to choose an AHA. Lactic acid is a larger molecule and it attracts water.

▪️Tanning
We can use a glycolic acid to reduce tanning. It causes gentle exfoliation exposing lighter coloured skin.

▪️Acne dark spots
Dark spots left behind by acne can sometimes be very stubborn. Using an alpha hydroxy acid can help.

▪️Active acne
For active acne, BHA is a better option.
⚠️remember that only topical application may not be adequate to treat acne. Please consult your dermatologist for evaluation and treatment. Once skin is scarred, it can never be normal skin.

▪️Oily skin
As salicylic acid gets concentrated in oil forming glands, it is a better choice to control oiliness. Though, AHA can also be used especially in sensitive skin type.

▪️Dullness
If your skin appears dull and you need a glow and refreshed look, AHA based serums can help.

⚠️consult dermatologist before starting any product especially if you have sensitive skin

⚠️BHA are contraindicated in pregnancy. Consult your dermatologist.
