After decades of mediocre teams and mid-season slumps, the 1984 Cubs had a team that felt different. But it really didn't take center stage until a game against the Cardinals on June 23, 1984. In what would be known as the Ryne Sandberg game, he hit a game-tying home run in the 9th inning off Bruce Sutter, then he did the exact same thing in the 10th inning as the Cubs won in 11. Propelling them to their first playoff appearance since 1945, though it had a disappointing ending with Leon Durham's error.
