Its main purpose is to determine whether there is enough evidence, or probable cause, to move forward with a trial. This hearing is not about proving guilt or innocence — it’s about whether the prosecution has sufficient grounds to continue the case.

During the hearing, the judge listens to the evidence presented by the prosecution and decides if the case should proceed to trial. The defense can also cross-examine witnesses and present arguments.

This stage is incredibly important because it gives the defense an early opportunity to challenge weak evidence, expose inconsistencies, or even push for reduced charges or a dismissal.
