My Darling Sara (Animatic) Shane Koyczan and the Short Story Long

Описание к видео My Darling Sara (Animatic) Shane Koyczan and the Short Story Long

Shane Koyczan is one of my favourite poets, and seeing all the creative animatics here on Youtube, I figured I'd dip my foot in myself to prepare myself for animation next year. Obviously, this is all for personal use, pls no sue.

How long did this take?
I pretty much spent 3 entire days on this with a couple days in between for rest, so about a week. This is probably very fast for this kind of work but then again it's pretty sketchy soooo

What program did you use?
The actual boards were made individually in SAI, the video was compiled in Premiere Pro and final effects were added in Photoshop because APPARENTLY Premiere Pro dosen't have a pan tool. There was a lot of technicaly difficulties along the way.

What song is this?
'My Darling Sara' by Shane Koyczan and the Short Story Long, from their album 'Remembrance Year'. I chose this song because, besides the fact it's a beautiful and emotional song, it had a lot of visual ideas that I wanted to draw.

'insert lyric here' is wrong!
The lyric website was pretty crappy and I didn't realise just how many lines were wrong until I finished all the boards. I did go through and change most of them, but the odd error still remains. Trust me, the bother me more than they bother you...

Why don't the characters have faces most of the time?
Origonally I sketched some of the panels with the intention of going over them with darker lines, but never did. The initial sketches didn't have faces, and I kind of liked the effect it gave. Instead, I focused on body language and gestures, I needed to practice them more. Of course, I ended up getting a bit more detailed in the later boards and some where closeups on their faces.

Why is Sara naked so much?
I... I don't know it just happened. I draw her naked for one scene and can't change it for the rest of the scene. At least naked girls are fun to draw.

What is the story?
The author is uninspired and struggling to write, when he meets Sara, and the two support eachother throughout their lives and hard times, which eventually leads to success for the author's writing and Sara's singing. I tried so hard to end it with a positive ending, but sometimes you can't deny the will of the song. I like to think that after the grieving the author becomes a stronger person and writes in memory of her, but I guess that's up to your interpretation.
