Stay relaxed & low: Lower yourself slowly until your shoulders are submerged. This maximizes buoyancy because your body weighs much less (about 1/12th its weight) when fully in water.
Fill your lungs with air: Take deep breaths before and during floating. A full tank of air will lift you up. As you exhale and watch bubbles rise, you'll feel how keeping your lungs full keeps you afloat.
Increase surface area: Spread out your arms and legs or lie flat instead of standing straight up. A larger surface area in contact with the water will keep you floating more easily.
Let your legs relax: Don’t worry about lifting your legs – let them sink a bit. Your legs don’t need oxygen. Keep your face and chest up (chin back), which makes your body float higher.
Use gentle momentum: Small kicks or a bit of forward movement help maintain your float. Just like a boat rides higher when speeding up, a little motion will keep you gliding on the surface.
