You can create custom commands that use API functions to make the Twitch chat more engaging. A common command used is the followage command. This command allows a user to see how long they have been following a stream for. Commonly known as follow age.

The Nightbot followage command is a custom command which you must set up manually. You need to use an API to source the information for the viewer. The function is called upon by Nightbot, which it then adds into its response message in your chat.

For Nightbot to function you will need to add it to your stream chat. To add the bot you will need to click the “Join Channel” button on the dashboard. This will allow Nightbot to see your chat and message.

With Nightbot in your Twitch chat you will also need to give it moderator permissions. The mod role is required for running some Nightbot functionality. It also makes Nightbot stand out more as an authority in your chat.
