Join myself, Paul, and ‪@thelifeofbrian282‬ on a wet and wild adventure as we explore the spooky Abyssinia Bothy in the heart of Scotland. Through rain and mist, we hike together, embracing the elements. We didn't let the weather dampen our spirits; we had memorable overnight stay filled with banter and excitement.

During our adventure, we had the pleasure of meeting Will, a lovely guy from Brighton, right there in the spooky Abyssinia Bothy. With laughter and camaraderie, we shared our stories and experiences, making our overnight stay even more memorable.

Abyssina Bothy

Situated in Glen Kinglas, Abyssinia provides welcome shelter to those exploring the surrounding hills. Thought to be built around the late 1800’s, it was occupied as a shepherd’s cottage until it was abandoned after the First World War. It was used for storage of animal feed and hay for a nearby farm then fell into ruin before being renovated as a bothy in 2017.

Urban Myth or not?

There was a croft (today it’s a bothy) near Arrochar called Abyssinia. Apparently, a man named Iain Mór (Big John) visited Abyssinia (Ethiopia), perhaps as a soldier, and wouldn’t shut up about it when he got back to Scotland. His friends started calling him “Abyssinia” to tease him and the nickname stuck.👻
