On August 15, eight individuals from Uzbekistan were arrested at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for an alleged attempt to smuggle 50 gold chains worth approximately Rs 3 crore. The arrest was made based on passenger profiling, according to a senior Customs official. The group had arrived at IGI Airport from Tashkent and was stopped as they approached the exit gate of the International Arrival Hall, having already passed through the Green Channel.

Upon inspection, customs authorities discovered fifty gold chains weighing a total of 5,319 grams (with a value of Rs 2,92,62,385) concealed within a hollow metal box affixed to the rear panel of their baggage trolley, as explained by the official. The official stated that the confiscated gold was seized under the provisions of Section 110 of the Customs Act. As per Section 104 of the Customs Act, the passengers were subsequently taken into custody.
