The Dacian Set

including the Dacian bow by Sav Archery (33lbs/ 28”), a bracer and my Dacian military quiver.

October 2020 Romi has finished my Dacian bow and shortly after I have shot the bow for the first time.
It was love from the very beginning and I have shot groups with this bow more often than with others.

Back in these days I have used bracers and so I have had created one made of leather, with embossing and rabbit fur.

It’s always a pleasure to shoot the Dacian! 🥰
The bow has a smooth draw, a nice sound, is precise and feels excellent in the hand. The shape is very beautiful, too!

Some weeks back in 2023 Valentin has written to me via fb messenger and brought up the idea to create a Dacia quiver. He has supported me with some infos and photos.
I loved the idea and decided to create a proper quiver for my Dacian! ☺️

End of October 2023 I have started with the Dacian military quiver prototype - finally!
The reference are photos from the Trajan´s column and plaster replicas that have been taken years ago.
Meanwhile the plaster replicas are in better condition as the original column.

It took a little more than 51 hours to complete the quiver and some hours more for the belt and rigging.
The lacing (the style had been chosen by the fb group) was very time consuming and material intensive… it took more than 14 hours (in 8 days) to complete this task.
The result is good looking, but I am not happy with it.
Reason is, that the lacing flattens the bumps, that are created to support the iron rings. Furthermore, the lacing pattern gets disrupted by the rings and you need to weave somehow over the rings.

I have created an alternative piece to show the (in my eyes) better lacing solution.
The benefits of the alternative lacing are: consistent lacing pattern, clean look, bumps shapes remain, less material and time needed.

The flaps material is linen in my version, since I think, that the performance of this fabric comes close to what is shown on the reliefs.

As always I have marked the chapters for your time management 😁

Thank you so much, dear Romi for this and a future Dacian bow!
Many Thanks to the fb group for the support!

Best wishes!
