Uttar Pradesh Exit Poll Results Live: As voting in the 18th Lok Sabha elections comes to an end, all eyes are now on the exit poll results. The Axis My India exit poll has predicted 64-67 seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and one seat for the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). It has also predicted seven to nine seats for Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and one to three seats for Congress. The two parties are in a seat-sharing alliance in the state. Meanwhile, the News18 Mega Exit poll has predicted 68-71 seats out of the total 80 for the NDA , while the Opposition’s INDIA bloc is likely to win nine to 12 seats. According to Republic-PMarq, the NDA is expected to win 69 seats, while INDIA is expected to win eight. The India News-D Dynamic survey also predicts 69 seats for NDA and 11 for INDIA. Further, the News Nation has predicted 67 seats for NDA and 13 seats for INDIA.

Uttar Pradesh was one of the three states that voted in all seven phases of the general elections, the other two being Bihar and West Bengal. Major leaders of every party campaigned in the state, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi contesting from the Varanasi constituency for the third consecutive time, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi contesting from his family bastion of Rae Bareli for the first time. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from Kannauj, while his wife Dimple has been fielded from the family bastion of Mainpuri, which was earlier represented by SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. Bollywood actor Hema Malini, who has represented the Mathura constituency since 2014, is also in the fray.

What happened in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept away Uttar Pradesh in the previous general elections, winning 62 out of 80 seats in the state. Among the major upsets was the loss of traditional Congress stronghold Amethi to BJP, where Union Minister Smriti Irani defeated Rahul (however, Rahul managed to retain his presence in the Lok Sabha by winning from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala).
