Joel Sartore is a National Geographic Explorer and photographer from Lincoln, Nebraska. His National Geographic ‘Photo Ark’ series aims to document the roughly 22,000 species of animals that reside in zoos around the world before they go extinct. The ongoing series turns 15 — so far, Sartore has photographed more than 11,000 species.

Sartore said wildlife photography is not an easy task. He shared a few words of advice for young people who are looking at careers in photography.
