It's comparison time! How does the new Nexus 7 screen stack up against the old one?

Let me start this comparison by saying I'm not comparing the screen resolution. The new Nexus 7 is 1920x1200 while the old Nexus 7 is 1200x800. On a 720p video you're not going to tell the difference. So what I am comparing is the screen quality in terms of richness.

And hopefully what you are seeing here is more vibrancy from the new Nexus 7 on the left. This is the Kindle application and the page is set to a sepia tone which is more accurate on the new tablet, while the old Nexus 7 looks more white and creamy.

The next test is a screen test which will cycle through a range of different colours and patterns.

Again, the winner appears to be the new Nexus 7 that displays colours with more vibrancy.

For this test I put the brightness to maximum on both tablets and in each case the colour in the old Nexus 7 appears slightly drained and washed.

Now let me stress, although you can clearly see a difference, that's not to say the screen of the old Nexus 7 was terrible. For its time it's perfectly acceptable. But, like with so many things with the new Nexus 7, the screen resolution and screen quality is marginally better. And these small but numerous improvements are really starting to stack up.
