The Varassi Pega-Agnese duo of piano and bandoneon was recently formed as a way to explore tango music in an intimate setting. From this traditional and interesting line-up featuring two of the main tango instruments, they perform pieces from the tango literature arranged by themselves as well as some of their own compositions.

The duo was crafted from the ensemble Tango Tinto, with which they have performed for many years touring in most European countries and Argentina.

They both come from the province of Santa Fe: Bárbara from the beautiful and tanguera Rosario, Gerardo from Villa Constitución. After joining the orquesta típica [tango traditional orchestra] and other tango ensembles in Rosario, they moved to Europe for different reasons and founded the ensemble Tango Tinto in Italy. They have also performed with many other ensembles in the field and are currently based in Brussels and Rotterdam respectively.

Bárbara works as well as an artistic research coach at Codarts University for the Arts and Fontys University of Fine and Performing Arts, has studied classical piano and composition, and has a Master and PhD with research projects on tango music. Gerardo studied with the legendary bandoneonist Domingo Federico, led the pop band Degradé, and participated in numerous ensembles, theatre, circus and interdisciplinary projects, oftentimes presenting his own compositions.
