My final vocal technique post of 2025 and it’s for YOU, tenors!! You guys have been asking for some love and I made this one especially for you! BUT…the concepts do apply to all voice types!

The tenor (and baritone!) turn is always a mystery! You can unlock that mystery by utilizing the idea of a downward compression of air but also, the squillo turn forward! It is often difficult to coordinate this idea because the two ideas go in opposite directions! Sorry friends!

A lot of singers will try to listen to themselves to check and make sure they are doing it “right.” This causes us to hold the sound in or fall backwards in the resonators.

This goes for ALL voice types - when you listen to yourself internally, the squillo will be held back too and the voice won’t arrive as well into the theatre! I know it’s difficult, but the less you hear the sound in your head, the further it is going OUT! And we want that!
