While its primary mission is hauling troops and gear, the C-130 airframe has been adapted for some truly wild jobs.
In 1963, a KC-130F, without any arresting hook or special modifications, successfully landed on, and took off from, the deck of the USS Forrestal. The pilots performed 21 unassisted landings and takeoffs, proving that this giant could operate from a carrier to resupply it at sea.
