'This Is a Strategy of Tension' – Galeotti on FSB Statement

Mark Galeotti is one of the best experts on Russian security and transatlantic organized crime. He is closely following the situation in Russia. Mr. Galeotti is convinced that the FSB statement about Ukrainian saboteurs was one of Putin's political ploys, and it is not about preparation for military action.

"Putin's only meaningful instrument is to say: 'Yes, things are bad now, but I could make them even worse'," says Galeotti, trying to explain the Russian president's logic in such way.

According to Mr. Galeotti, Russian security services try to use Soviet Union tactics of intimidation and torture in order to make people confess.
