Brown-headed Parrots originate from south-eastern Africa, including parts of South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini. Calcium deficiency is one of the most common health issues in captive birds and can lead to feather picking and weakness if not addressed.

🪺 Breeding Brown-headed Parrots

Brown-headed Parrots breed well in captivity when given privacy and suitable nesting conditions. Breeding usually occurs between April and October, though some pairs may breed outside this period.

• Typical clutch size: 2–4 eggs
• Incubation period: 22–26 days
• Fledging age: 7–9 weeks
• Weaning: Around 12 weeks

Hand-rearing from the egg stage is extremely challenging, and chicks are best left with their parents for at least the first 1–2 weeks.
