Описание к видео Three Letters From the Front: A WWI Soldier’s Final Words to His Mother (1916–1918)

In this deeply moving historical documentary, we reveal three real letters written by Canadian WWI soldier Clarence Gordon McDougald during his early military service in 1916.
At the time, Gordon was training at Hastings Park, Vancouver, before being sent overseas to fight in France at Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele—two of the bloodiest battles of the First World War.
These letters, written to his mother and family, capture the quiet moments behind the uniforms: rain-soaked training days, long marches, missed goodbyes, financial struggles, and finally the electrifying news of deployment overseas. Through simple words, we witness the emotional transformation of a young bank clerk into a decorated war soldier.

His brother, Jack Malcolm McDougald, also served in France with the Canadian Field Artillery. Together, their story represents thousands of Canadian families torn apart by war.

This video brings their words to life with cinematic visuals, historically accurate scenes, and original AI-generated environments—preserving a voice from the past that almost vanished with time.

⚠️ All letters are presented as faithfully as possible using original transcripts provided by museum archives. Minor spelling inconsistencies are retained for authenticity.

If history matters to you, this story will stay with you.
