Tutankhamun, also known as King Tut, became pharaoh at the young age of about 8 or 9.

What did he do?
• He spent his ruling trying to restore Egypt to its former religion after his Father Akhenaten tried to enforce a new religion called Atenism.
• People stopped worshipping Aten and returned to worshipping Amun
• King Tut even changed his name from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun as a symbol of this.
His Health:
• Tutankhamen had a hard life - He had many health problems such as scoliosis and malaria and even had to walk with a cane.
• He was small in stature and died young at about the age of 18 or 19.
• He had two daughters who died when they were only infants so after his death there was no one in his family to continue ruling.

Cause of Death:
• There are many theories, but all are just rumours
• Some believe Tutankhamun was killed by a high priest called Ay who took care of his and acted as an advisor to King Tut
• Other believe it was some form of accident such as an injury on a chariot.
• Egyptologists scanned the body and found a fractured skull, injured ribs and leg.
• The truth is his death remains a mystery.

The Discovery of his tomb:
• The tomb was discovered in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter.
• Inside were over 5000 artifacts
• The mummy was placed inside 3 coffins each bigger than the last that were placed inside a stone sarcophagus.
• A priceless golden mask was also discovered.
• When asked if he could see anything Howard Carter replied ‘Yes…Wonderful Things!’
