Lexus launches the third gen RX350 for 2010, retaining the 3.5-liter V6 but pushing its output slightly to 275 hp and 257 lb-ft (348 N-m), and adding a sixth gear to the automatic transmission. As was the case in the jump from first to second gen, the third gen RX is larger than before and sits squarely in the mid-size SUV segment it sought to undercut in the nearly compact first-gen.

The RX450h hybrid now offers a combined 295 hp and improved fuel economy of 28 mpg city (11.90 km/l) and 26 mpg highway (11.05 km/l). It is distinguished by blue-tinted Lexus badges.

In keeping with progress, the Lexus RX continues to gain tech, niceties, and upgrades as it balloons from its position as a well-appointed compact crossover into a cushy two-row cruiser. A slightly more aggressive F Sport trim hits the streets as part of a 2013 refresh that includes new grilles, colors, wheels, interior trim options, headlights, and taillights. Nabbing the F Sport adds an angrier front grille, package-specific interior colors and trim and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

For the first time, the RX's interior breaks away from the original's U-shaped center stack theme in favor of a kind of sideways U-shaped thing. The shifter still lives on the dashboard, but sits beneath a silver-finish panel and a new, larger screen mounted up by the windshield.
