The 2018 Winter Olympics will be cranking up in a few days, but Wilson was with one young athlete this morning that has her eye on the 2022 Olympics.

February 2, 2018

Nikia Squire is currently training for the 2022 Winter Olympics in the sports of Skeleton and Bobsled. Nikia is from Charlotte and is a track athlete at Queens University. When she had the opportunity to try out Skeleton and Bobsled sports she knew it was something she wanted to do. Kiara has to travel to train to places like Lake Placid, New York as well as outside of the country which can be very expensive. To help with her expenses, she has set up a go fund me account. If you would like to help, you can donate to her account at www.gofundme.com/nikiasskeleton.

Nikia and WCCB’s intern Kiara took to the ice at Charlotte Curling Center to have a little early morning curling fun. The center is located at 6525 Old Statesville Road in Charlotte not only is curling recognized as an official sport in the Olympics but it is also an official sport of the Paralympic Games.

Beginning February 10th and running until February 25th if you are interested in the sport of curling and would like to learn, the Charlotte Curling Association will offer classes for beginners. They will also be holding 3 very special learn to curl classes where participants will be learning from Olympic champion Canadian Carolyn McRorie. Find out more about these classes at the Charlotte Curling Association’s website charlottecurling.com
