Andrew Roberts has written twenty books which have been translated into twenty-eight languages and have won thirteen literary prizes. Lord Roberts is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Historical Society, the Roger & Martha Mertz Visiting Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, and a visiting professor at the Department of War Studies at King’s College, London. Dr Jonathan Spyer is a journalist, author and analyst of Middle East affairs. He is Director of Research at the Middle East Forum and edits the Forum’s journal, the Middle East Quarterly. Spyer is a columnist at the Jerusalem Post and is a contributor to the Wall Street Journal and the Australian newspapers and to Janes Intelligence Review. He has extensive experience as a correspondent in the field, and has reported on conflict from Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Turkey, Ukraine, Jordan, and Israel/West Bank/Gaza. He holds a PHD from the London School of Economics. Spyer is author of The Transforming Fire: The Rise of the Israel-Islamist Conflict (Routledge, 2011) and Days of the Fall: A Reporter’s Journey in the Syria and Iraq Wars (Routledge, 2017).
