Arun Vijai Mathavan, a photographer, delves into the history and necessity behind the caste system in modern India, and focuses on the plight of Dalits, who continue to be a significantly oppressed community. His talk discusses autopsies that are performed by Dalits in unsanitary conditions & unregulated work atmospheres, and reimagines a new world that could be free of such injustices. A Kanyakumari based, engineer-turned-photographer, Arun Vijai Mathavan is working on environmental issues and social documentary. He is particularly interested in exploring issues of spaces with its relation to the environment and urbanisation.
