Baron Henry Edward Bliss was a wealthy Englishman.

Once, he was sailing through the Caribbean and got caught in a storm which forced him to seek a safe harbor in Belize’s calm waters.

Although Baron Bliss was confined to a wheelchair, he fell in love with Belize’s beauty, and the Belizeans he had the chance to interact with.

He left a significant portion of his estate for the benefit of Belize - making him the country's single largest benefactor. The iconic Baron Bliss Lighthouse and a granite grave were erected in his honor following his death.
