RAPE IS NEVER A MISTAKE & THERE CAN NEVER BE ANY REASON OR AN EXCUSE FOR THIS HEINOUS CRIME. RESPECT THE SEX WHICH GAVE YOU BIRTH. PUNISH RAPISTS, NOT PROTESTERS. LET US STOP RAPE AT ANY COST.
Despite all the education, law systems that exist, constitutions that are formed & promises that are made, time & again we witness cases of brutal sexual offences against women. The real problem is that we’ve education, but we lack conduct, we’ve freedom but we lack responsibility, we’ve law but lack implementation, we’ve modernisation but lack basic values.
Rape incidents affect us all, regardless of gender identity, sexuality, economic status, race, religion or age. Sexual violence against women is embedded in the way we think, speak & conduct. It’s the social environment that allows sexual violence to be normalised, fuelled by the persistent gender inequalities & attitudes.
Let’s redefine masculinity & take a critical look at what masculinity means to us & how we embody it. Let’s use our self-reflection, social interactions & our conduct to examine & redefine masculinities with equal rights. Let’s redefine & establish policies of zero tolerance for sexual harassment & violence in the spaces in which we live, work & play. Let’s redefine leadership & make them accountable to uphold a zero-tolerance policy & practise it.
Let’s empower women, amplify their voices, support survivors & promote acceptance of all gender identities. Let’s educate the next generation. Let’s challenge the violent ideals that children encounter in the media, on the streets, at workplaces & at school. Let your children know that your family is a safe space for them to express themselves as they are. Let us affirm their choices & teach the importance of consent at a young age.
Let’s not tell your daughters not to go out but tell our son(s) to behave properly. Let us examine our behaviours & beliefs for prejudices that permit rape culture to continue. Raising voice against it is the first step to dismantling rape culture & if you are silent, you too are guilty. Let’s redefine our social environment & responsibilities.
PS : Rapist are nothing less than terrorists & should be treated accordingly.
