'Classic GOP Nashville Racism' In FULL EFFECT As Tenn. House Expels 2 Black Dems

The Tennessee State House voted 72-25 to expel Nashville Rep. Justin Jones and 69-26 to expel Memphis Rep. Justin Pearson. Gloria Johnson, a fellow Democrat who protested narrowly, avoided expulsion. Democratic lawmakers rebuked Republican members of the state's House of Representatives for what they claimed was a racially motivated move to oust the two youngest Black legislators.

The move threatened to strip more than 200,000 Tennesseans of their elected representatives and mark just the fourth time since the end of the Civil War when the House ousted sitting lawmakers.
