River Severn floods and covers canal at Worcester, January 2024

Описание к видео River Severn floods and covers canal at Worcester, January 2024

On Thursday January 4th 2024:

Following the recent continual rain and seemingly endless storms, the rivers of the UK are all very full and are overflowing their banks in many places. The Severn is no exception and is well-known for flooding towns and cities along its course.

I last went to Worcester in October after there'd just been a storm, and made a video of the swollen river and how it encroached upon the start of the Worcester & Birmingham Canal. We've had a lot more rain lately so I went back yesterday to see how it looks...

Absolutely astonishing! The river has risen very dramatically and has totally covered the canal's Bottom Lock, which is now completely under water and no longer visible!

Watch the video to see how the the river looks now, and also the hundreds of swans who are making the best of things and congregating along the 'new' river banks.

Who knows how long it'll take for the river level to drop down again. Once it does, then I imagine the CRT will be inspecting the lock to see what damage has been done.

As usual, West Midlands Trains performed very well, getting me to and from Worcester right on time. I really am impressed with them. 👍

Next time - as the forecast is dry weather for the coming week, I hope to get the Brompton out, and take it for a spin somewhere. Keeping fingers crossed anyway!

Hope you'll enjoy the video,

Jeff
