Pruning top tip - vigorous vs productive fruiting wood

Описание к видео Pruning top tip - vigorous vs productive fruiting wood

The peaches are in flower, so in this video I take the opportunity to illustrate an important point regarding the contrast between vigorous and productive wood; this applies to all sorts of fruits, not just the peaches. It is often the weaker growing shoots that are more productive and the most vigorous and vertical shoots the least productive. It can be clearly seen at this time of year when fruit buds are swelling and the early flowering sorts are starting to bloom. It can be useful to consider this contrast when deciding which shoots to prune out and which to keep, and when training, especially where there is an opportunity to lay branches down, such as with fans, espaliers, festoons, and similar forms.
