(23 Jun 2014) Fighting continued on Monday between Iraqi troops and militants from the Islamic state of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
Footage showed gunfire exchanges between both sides northeast of Baqouba, capital of the restive Diyala province.
The video footage showed the Iraqi Army seizing a number of weapons after ISIL militants retreated from their location.
ISIL militants have cut a swathe through parts of Iraq, capturing key cities and border crossings, in the last two weeks.
The militants' battlefield successes in the north and the west of the country have laid bare the inadequacies of the country's US-trained forces, and have deepened the predicament of the Shiite-led government in Baghdad led by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
