Gaza is one of the most densely populated areas in the world, with 2.11 million Palestinians living in an area that is 365 km2 with a population density of 5,800 per square kilometres. The full closure of Gaza since 2007 has led to a protracted housing crisis, with a chronic housing shortage of more than 120,000 units, with an annual average of 14,000 housing units needed to meet natural population growth.

The NRC-led Shelter Cluster in Palestine is working through partners to address the emergency and longer-term shelter needs of the most vulnerable families.
