How to catch Smooth Hounds from the beach - The Totally Awesome Fishing Show

Take the fastest swimming fish in British waters, and then try to catch them from an open beach. Graeme Pullen takes you through the basic tips for targeting the elusive Smoothound - a species that can strip line from your reel with amazing speed. The beach is at Selsey Bill, one of the top south coast marks for targeting the Hounds in the summer. Night fishing usually produces the most bites, but with only daytime available, Graeme decides it can still be worth a try, even though conditions were less than favourable. No distance casting required, he uses a standard beach rod and reel with hardback crab for bait. The Smoothound represents possibly the most achievable target an angler can aim for to catch his biggest fish from a beach. An 8-pounder is still a great catch, and seeing the large Dorsal fin cutting through a wave as you are about to beach it, is a heart-stopping experience with a big crab bait out from Selsey beach even a beginner is in with a chance of a good fish. Strong tackle and strong hooks are advised as the Smoothound will find any loose chink in your armour. The fish is the beach fisherman's challenge! Totally Awesome!
