The original Robin Hood ballads took inspiration from the real life and exploits of Robert Hood of Wakefield

The ballads told of the adventures of a rebel yeoman outlaw operating in Barnsdale Forest around the Wentbridge area of Yorkshire.

A couple of hundred years later, the narrative shifted and Robin Hood was changed from a lowborn northern yeoman to highborn southern nobleman.

The highborn, nobleman Robin Hood character was inspired by the real lives of historical figures such as Robert fitz Odo and Faulk fitz Warren..
